Tips from My Studio
I started working in mosaics in 2001. This series contains advice I’ve gleaned along the way.
Working with Clear Silicone Adhesive
At some point it just becomes more economical to buy clear silicone in the caulk gun tubes. And with that, you need one of the tools that pushes the silicone out as well.
And you also want some sealable sandwich bags.
- Open your silicone tube,
- squeeze some into your sandwich bag,
- push all the silicone into one corner of the bag
- seal the bag
- snip off a corner of the bag
- use it to "pipe" your adhesive onto the base
- put your tesserae into the adhesive
At the end of your work session you can
- put your "piping" bag into an empty sealable bag,
- seal it, and
- stick both in the refrigerator to await your next work session.
This typically keeps your silicone adhesive usable for 2-3 days.
